The movie based on drug abuse in colleges, brought a wonderful insight into drugs and its ways. It was a wonderful movie, and its scenes and songs instantly touched auidences. Johnnie Walker, John Varghese one of the stylish character portrayed by Mega Star Mammootty got released in 1992 and directed by Jayaraj. It was a good hit movie from Mammootty in 1991. The scenes where Mammootty interacts with his children are a delight to watch and hats off to the director for giving a great family story.
The film is a good example for cinema that is not very serious but at the same time does not bore or irritate you with senseless twists and turns. Each and every character has a touch of humour blended into it, while Suresh Chakkravarthy's character embodies humour. The song "Kozhi koovum" exploits her skill to the fullest. Bhanupriya as the Dancer who is dedicated to her art gives a good performance with some great dance sequences. Geetha as the Professor, Madhubala as the chirpy teenager are apt for their roles.
Geetha, Madhubala and Banupriya have played their roles excellently. He acted well as loving father, a successful hotelier, a respectable citizen, an earnest lover and an understanding person. The reason behind each woman's desire is very rationally explained. The movie is not a typical masala Tamil movie with women falling for the protagonist for his heroism. Azhakan tells the story of a widowed father (Mammootty) and his 4 children and the twists in his life when 3 women fall for him while he falls for one of them. In the ensuing struggle between the Collector and Deva/Surya, Surya learns that Arjun's mother is his mother too. Arjun (Arvind Swamy), posted as the new District Collector, plans to arrest both Deva and Surya, so that he could put an end to their brutal activities. But in the eyes of the Government, they are considered as antisocial elements. Both of them rule the town not only with their muscle but also with their sense of justice. Deva makes Surya his commander "Thalapathi". Surya too declares that he will be Deva's best friend till death. And from that glorious moment, Deva surrenders his ego and offers his hand of friendship. Surya himself is surprised to see Deva get him out from jail, and there he tells him nyayamnu onnu irrukku (there is such a thing as justice). However, when Deva discovers Ramana's offense, he decides to get Surya released from jail. Soon as his friend passes away, Surya then gets placed in prison.
Devarajan's friend is beaten up terminally by Surya, and Deva threatens Surya that Surya will find himself in a dangerous situation if Deva's friend was laid to rest. These qualities lead him to cross swords with the local smuggler Devarajan (Mammootty). He grows into a fearless kind-hearted slum king who fights the injustice that takes place in town.
